If their parents must be American citizens for the child born here to become an American citizen, it could eliminate a major problem regarding immigration. Many pregnant women come to the United States to have their babies born here in order for them to become American citizens. In California, there are quasi-hotels set up just for Asian women to travel there during a pregnancy in order to have their baby born in the US. Children born in foreign countries to American women are American citizens rather than a citizen of that country.
