America's reliance on foreign oil is turning into a dangerous addiction, and the Keystone pipeline exemplifies this trait. Studies show that constructing the pipeline would pump more money out of the USA, put a greater amount of wealth into the hands of abusive oil companies, and most importantly degrade the environment. Rising gas prices has led to a great amount of innovation in solar and wind technologies, research in power storage devices, and entrepreneurship in the field of clean tech. By allowing the Keystone pipeline to be constructed, all of this progress will take the backseat in another decade of uncontrolled carbon emissions. By diverting these oil investments toward clean energy instead, we can help build technologies of the future, create jobs, and save the environment.
