There are laws preventing the names and likeness of individuals who are raped and for children involved in a criminal act in any way to be released for public information. Yet, the people committing atrocious acts are sensationalized. They are put front and center of the screens of all those possessing televisions, cell phones and computers.
Once the act is committed, the criminal mind comes to the forefront. We dissect the person, go back into his/her past. We try to come to terms with the person who committed the acts and know more about him/her than the victims themselves.
I respectfully request that we no longer make celebrities out of criminals. I ask that the media no longer identify criminals who commit heinous acts to prevent copycats from one-upping them.
