The Department of Homeland Security is proposing to create a national, searchable database of all licence plates and vehicle information. This is a huge invasion of privacy on the scale of the NSA's recording of cell phone meta data. The DHS's proposal is open to all the same abuses as the NSA's cell phone records and such a blanket collecting of data on any and all vehicles violates our personal rights to privacy. We urge President Obama to have the DHS abandon their plans for creating such a database. Surely we have learned the lesson that we should not do something like this just because we can.
