The Dept. of Energy has proposed ceiling fan rulemaking in the framework document: Docket No. EERE 2011-BT-STD-0045. Studies published by the EPA recommend using ceiling fans over electric cooling systems because ceiling fans consume significantly less electricity. Additional regulation on the design of ceiling fans will result in the decline of ceiling fan sales due to the increase of cost. As ceiling fan sales drop, energy consumption will rise because consumers will be relying more heavily on electric cooling systems. The DOE should shift some resources currently being used on ceiling fan regulation into educating consumers on the energy saving benefits of ceiling fans. We also propose Sep. 28, 2013 to be National Ceiling Fan Day.
