AquaBounty designed their fish to grow five times faster than normal salmon. But if the fish find their way into the wild & breed, there’s potential for environmental chaos. Computer models and studies of GE salmon being released result in the EXTINCTION of natural salmon, an important source of protein & omega-3s.
Health risks of GE fish include: 1) Cancer due to higher levels of a hormone that may promote cancer, 2) Increased antibiotic intake 3) Allergens (they only tested 6 fish, yet researchers DID find allergy potential)
Once fish escape, there is no closing that door.
These salmon would be the first approval for a GE farm animal.
This is a “bad precedent to set!”
