By linking to commercial Internet services such as facebook and Twitter for services that could be directly provided by the government, the federal government provides tacit support and endorsement to these services. The government in essence drives traffic to these commercial services which provides extra revenue to the companies. These companies have questionable privacy practices. These services can be fully provided by the government without having to link to and advertise a third party commercial service that did not have to go through the normal federal procurement procedure.
This petition would seek to prevent the automatic linking and driving of traffic to third party commercial Internet services that have not gone through the normal procurement process.
