America, despite having invented the internet, has already fallen behind in regards to Broadband Internet access. Broadband internet providers have already displayed their willingness to charge the largest amounts and provide some of the slowest connection speeds in the modern world.
Monopolies in this sector have and will continue to impede America’s progress into the information age. This merger brings forth another major issue that hampers the availability Broadband Internet access. Broadband Internet access needs to be considered a telecommunication service by the FCC. This reclassification would be an important step in controlling the naturally occurring monopolies that already exist.
