All around the country, coal fired power generation plants are being moth-balled due to the upcoming cost hurdle of meeting the standards of the new "Clean Air Act"
This has obvious effects on the surrounding economies as the cost of energy skyrockets, and the jobs maintaining the plants are lost.
One plant located in the north of Rochester will not meet the new standards without millions of dollars of funding. That plant, could power the future NY Battery and energy storage technology (NY-BEST) research; which will revolutionize sustainable energy tech.
Without coal plants, upgraded or not, the communities of many towns all across the United states will be devastated by high energy costs, and dozens of layoffs at each plant.
Coal isn't the future, but we need power to get there.
