To prevent loss of life, mandate all new cars be self driving in 2 years and all cars on road in 5 years.

In the USA 30,000 people a year die needlessly from traffic accidents. All of these deaths can be eliminated and all of the other injuries caused by careless driving if all new vehicles sold in the USA were mandated to be self driving in the next two (2) years. All old vehicles have 5 years to either retire from service or be outfitted with self driving abilities. It has been reported that car crashes cost the economy $871 billion a year and traffic jams cost another $124 billion. Nearly a trillion dollars. In one act 30,000 lives a year can be save and nearly a trillion dollars left in the economy that would be lost. And all of the families that would not lose a loved one to drunk diving, careless driving or even loss of control of a vehicle.
