I believe that it is unethical and brings serious irreparable damage to reputations and potential community standing, for news outlets such as newspapers and television news stations to post photographs or mugshots of persons on social media websites such as facebook, twitter, or myspace, who have been charged with a crime, but not yet convicted.
This practice must also be detrimental to the idea of receiving a fair trial by a jury of peers, as the story may be slanted in either direction the media wishes to take.
It is also highly unfair to those who may be found later to be innocent of any charge, but have at the hands of social media suffered damage to reputation and character.
Our justice system should maintain the idea that people are innocent until proven guilty.
