Gov. Chris Christie has used an executive order instructing his state legislature to explore the implications of rescinding a 39 year old income state tax agreement between NJ and PA in order to overcome a 250 million dollar tax deficit created by the NJ state legislature under his governance.
Rescinding the agreement will create a situation where 121,698 PA residents who work in NJ will be taxed in NJ without representation, as they are PA residents. This is conversely true for the 123,650 NJ residents who work in PA. For Philadelphia residents, rescinding this agreement creates a situation of double taxation, which ultimately hurts interstate commerce.
