The Energy Department proposed, on 12 Dec 2012, to release large amounts of radioactive scrap for sale to recyclers. They allowed a period of 30 days for comment, but the site specified for commenting was inoperative for the first 9 days. There has been an extension, and we have until 11 Feb 2013 to tell them what a dangerous and deplorable idea this is.
That radioactive scrap, if released for recycling, will become so intermingled with metal objects that we will NEVER be able to remove it.
It should be noted that there is NO scientifically-recognized "Safe Limit" for radiation. ALL exposure to radiation is potentially dangerous, and the vulnerability is cumulative---IT ADDS UP over time.
PLEASE stop them from taking this misguided action.
