National Marine Fisheries Service has authorized the euthanization of California Sea Lions at the rate of 92 per year over a five year period based on an unrealistic assumption that predation rates for chinook salmon at 2 to 3 percent are detrimental to survival of salmon and steelhead in these tributaries, when studies by the US Army corps of engineers proves that removal of several of the hydroelectric dams on these tributaries would guarantee healthy breeding pools for these endangered fish. To suggest euthanization of Marine Mammals to save 2 to 3 percent of projected annual catch is ludicrous and unfounded. Stop the Killing of our Sea Lions that are allegedly protected by the Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972,as amended.
