The Herbert C. Bonner Bridge, located in Dare County, opened in 1963 and provides the only highway connection between Hatteras Island and mainland North Carolina. The Outer Banks needs representation from Washington D.C. to prevent the Southern Environmental Law Center from hindering the replacement or rebuilding of a new bridge across Oregon Inlet.
