Cal is being forced by monied interests into moving the 2014 Big Game to Santa Clara's new 49ers stadium. The move would mean Cal won't play a Big Game at the gorgeous California Memorial Stadium next year, and it would the destroy the tradition of Cal playing at home in Berkeley in even-numbered years. Why should President Obama care? Well, the Cal-Stanford game has a strong presidential tradition. John F. Kennedy attended the 1940 Big Game in Berkeley when he was taking classes at Stanford. Had the Big Game happened in an odd-numbered year, this momentous event would not have happened -- JFK was at Harvard in fall 1939 and in the U.S. Navy in fall 1941. Please, Mr. President, save our tradition!
