Preventative Mental Health in Public Schools

Created by A.F. on January 18, 2013

As I see it, the purpose of mandatory public education is to help mold children into informed and well-adjusted citizens of society. Frankly, the well-adjusted aspect could be improved. There could be courses throughout a child's education that address a variety of important interpersonal issues including but not limited to: 1) ways to handle arguments, 2) emotional management, 3) how to cope with stress, 4) family issues, 5) bullies, 6) making friends. In essence, a nationwide educational program focused on overall psychological well-being, interpersonal maturity and the ability to critically assess arguments would be beneficial. While many citizens may not use certain technical courses in their day-to-day lives, the tools promoted in a program like this could have a profound impact.
