Prioritize Climate Change in the Next State of the Union Address

Created by Z.L. on November 21, 2012

The proposition is simple: Barack Obama should prioritize climate change as a man-made problem and a critical issue for his second term. He should speak openly about it in his next State of the Union address.

The President should acknowledge the Pentagon's position that climate change represents an extraordinary threat to national security and is likely to destabilize entire nations, spur food shortages, and strengthen terrorist networks. He should also acknowledge the World Bank's position that it is a serious economic threat that can bring both the U.S. and the world economy grinding to a halt.

Barack Obama should implore Congress to take action on climate change in this term, and to implement whatever measures he thinks will be most effective in combating the problem.
