We, the undersigned, recognize that our generation is witness to a unique opportunity, one that can tackle the interrelated issues of economic development and environmental accountability. This opportunity is founded in the concept of the New Green Economy. Outdated modes of energy production, which are epitomized by the proposed Keystone XL pipeline, have numerous negative side effects to public health and environmental well-being. We issue a call to our leaders to revitalize economic development in the U.S. through the numerous pathways presented by a New Green Economy. Renewable energy sources and sustainable development must become an overarching national priority. We sign this petition in the democratic spirit upon which our country was founded.
