The United States has been the world leader in biomedical research for decades. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) ensures that future advances and treatments are found by supporting cutting edge research at USA public institutions and training the next generation of scientists via an intricate system of undergraduate, graduate, medical, and post-doctoral education. Who benefits from all of this investment? We all do. Private citizens benefit from the advances in treatments for horrible diseases. Private industry (like Big Pharma and small BioTech) benefit from building upon NIH funded discovery. The NIH is a proven job and wealth creator for our country. The budget impasse created by Congress is killing the NIH. Don't let that happen, don't let our decades of investment die!
