Overpopulation is one of the most pressing and one of the most overlooked issues facing the U.S. and the world. It effects nearly every major issue from pollution, hunger, and conservation to the economy and education. If overpopulation goes unchecked these issues will only get worse until only the most extreme measures will be able to overcome them. Over the 20th century the U.S. population increased by over 200 million while the world population increased by over 4 billion. Studies predict that by 2100 the world population could hit 12 billion.
I'm calling on the U.S. to push incentives for smaller families, promote adoption, provide easy access to contraceptives and sex education, and promote other countries to address the issue as well.
