"The U.S. Postal Service, which lost $1.3 billion in the first quarter[of 2013 and is] losing $25 million a day [with] a $20 billion budget gap, will be $45 billion in debt by 2017 unless legislative action is taken to alter its business model," as reported by the Fiscal Times on February 13, 2013.
I think this is reason enough to privatize all non-letter forms of postal service. If President Obama keeps talking about cutting the deficit, why isn't the USPS at the top of his list?
This decision would allow the US government to not worry about another failing federal business and promote competition between private shipping companies(i.e. UPS, FedEx) that would lower shipping prices, helping small businesses across America.
