Since the mid-1800s American education has steadily evolved into a federally-funded free for all. The consequences are clearly illustrated in modern classrooms, in which intellectual potential is squandered and redistributed. Grade retentions are stigmatized, as are dropouts. Teachers are paid on a schedule, and the government reserves the right to freeze the aforementioned schedule at any time. Grade inflation is rampant, and school wide morale is at an all-time low. Let us educate those who desire it, and reduce the entitlement mindset of our students - the next generation of state-dependent citizens.
