Alcohol abuse claims the lives of over 100,000 Americans through traffic accidents, homicide, and alcohol related illnesses. In addition, alcohol abuse costs billions of dollars to the economy in vehicle/property damage, lost productivity, court/jail expenses, rehabilitation programs, and various medical/insurance claims. Many of these costs are an unnecessary burden on taxpayers.
The prohibition of tobacco advertisement has greatly reduced use of tobacco products. Recent studies have shown that alcohol abuse is much more harmful per capita than tobacco use and so alcoholic beverage advertisements should be banned to reduce alcohol abuse. While many Americans drink responsibly, alcohol is an easily abused substance and many ads encourage consumption. Let's make a safer America.
