Prohibit the Construction of the Keystone Pipeline XL

Created by C.K. on February 22, 2015

The Keystone Pipeline XL will run from oil sand reserves in Canada to the Gulf Coast of Texas. The pipeline is projected to carry over 590,000 barrels of crude oil from Canada into the United States. Though this may seem appealing, the Keystone Pipeline will only increase U.S dependency on the use of crude oil, will slow future research for alternative, renewable energy sources, and will increase carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere from increased burning of fossil fuels. Oil sand refining causes detrimental effects on the environment by also releasing harmful greenhouse gases and sulfur dioxide into the atmosphere. Sulfur dioxide causes acid rain which will cause damage to ecosystems. America, when building the pipeline, is causing damage to the environment and our own country.
