Scholarships are divided for several groups of individuals. There are scholarships for Hispanics, African-Americans, Native Americans, and females. Poverty does not know racial or gender boundaries. So neither should our scholarships. Most individuals are born into the situation that they then must fight through. That individual did not get the choice to be rich or in a more fortune family, instead that individual had to work through any hardships to make it to college. That individual may or may not have had social support along the way, and being impoverished, they no doubt are not being financially supported. So what does it matter the gender or ethnicity if that individual is struggling through poverty to gain an education and a place in society?
