Prohibit direct-to-consumer advertisement of prescription-only medication.

Created by J.H. on January 24, 2013

In 2008 major pharmaceutical companies spend in excess of $4.3 Billion on direct-to-consumer advertisement of prescription-only drugs. This irresponsibility only serves to feed a society that has already become unacceptably drug-dependent and create a view that any ill can be cured if only people take the right pill. It also floods doctors with patients requesting prescriptions for medications they are led to believe they need by the endless barrage of advertisement, reducing their availability to patients with a genuine need of medical care and advice. Advertisement of these drugs should only be permitted to doctors, who are the only persons sufficiently knowledgeable and educated to determine what, if any, medications their patients truly require.
