With the proliferation of General Motors Vehicles on the road, using backup warning lamps, as courtesy lighting for the owners entry or egress from the vehicle.
Pedestrians and Other drivers have since become acclimated to stationary vehicles with backup lamps illuminated. Resulting in the practice of ignoring vehicles in the process of reversing from parking spaces causing collisions, resulting in property damage and injury in the case of pedestrians.
Further more the Dept of Transportation should amend Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108, to reflect that backup lamps should only be illuminated while the vehicle is preparing to or in the process of traveling in reverse.
