We understand that our law enforcement officers sometimes have to physically immobilize suspected lawbreakers. Most times, those suspects are clearly unarmed. In those cases, the police should have an alternative to lethal methods.
Hand-to-combat (i.e. takedowns, fighting, etc.) is sometimes not enough force to be effective, or too much force (i.e. chokeholds that become lethal).
Using a firearm in this situation is often too much force (and sometimes unintentionally lethal).
There needs to be a middle ground, and fortunately we already have the technology: TASERS.
This petition has two parts:
1. Prohibit police from using firearms on unarmed suspects.
2. Make it mandatory for all law enforcement officers to carry a taser for the purpose of immobilizing unarmed suspects.
