prohibit prescription insurance carriers from restricting coverage of maintenance medications to mail-order only.

Created by C.C. on March 07, 2013

Prescription drug coverage carriers are more and more restricting insured families to using mail order services instead of filling prescriptions at local pharmacies. While some offer savings through this means, such as 3 months for the cost of 2, this is not universal.

Families are forced to pay three times their medication costs at one time, plus shipping if that is not covered. Also, the use of mail order pharmacies takes business away from local pharmacies.

There is no packaging consideration to protect medications from extreme temperatures in delivery trucks, transfer facilities, or mailboxes.

The mail order pharmacies are a legitimate option, but they should be just that, an option for convenience. Please restrict insurers from locking policyholders into them.
