prohibit the sale of credit scores to public and private employers for use as an applicant-screening mechanism.

Created by C.S. on May 03, 2012

I am writing to express my concern and frustration over the sale of credit scores to private and public employers for use as an applicant-screening mechanism. Not only do I believe that this practice raises significant privacy and civil rights issues, particularly with respect to state and federal jobs, but it radically undermines and stymies any attempt to "create jobs." This practice imposes a catch-22 by which hard working Americans who are unable to pay their bills are precluded from finding gainful employment which would enable them to satisfy their personal debts and contribute to the overall economy simply because they are struggling financially in the first place. Moreover, Congressional testimony has revealed that there is no statistical link between debt and job performance.
