Biomagnification is a salient problem in Missouri streams. The Show-me State is known for its lush rivers, lakes, and other bodies of water that abound with a diverse array of fish, crustaceans, and amphibians. Many of these species are endemic (native) to Missouri, and their populations are dwindling quickly due to the presence and biomagnification of mercury in Missouri streams. As a result, crustaceans, bass, and trout pose a risk to consumers.
