Prohibit the use of proprietary software of any kind by all elements of government and tax exempt/non-profit entities

Created by A.J. on October 15, 2014

If our nation was born during the digital age, what operating system would our Founding Fathers have on their computers? Would the Declaration of Independance or Constitution have been written on Microsoft Office and saved in a proprietary format?

Year after year, countless billions of state and federal tax payer dollars are surrendered to companies like Microsoft. Bills are drafted in proprietary word processors and saved in proprietary formats. Our government relies on Microsoft solutions and it is a blatant misuse of funds. Tax exempt and non-profit entities are permitted to use their status to purchase these products as well.

In a country that is for the people and by the people, the information systems should run on software created by the people for the people.

Thank you!
