Mr. President publicly oppose the proposed bill being circulated in congress to enact confiscatory taxes on firearms and ammunition; the "Gun Violence Prevention and Safe Communities Act". The proposed taxes increase the price of legal firearms and ammunition to levels where only wealthy taxpayers would be able to afford shooting sports. The rights enacted under the constitution to bear arms applies equally to rich, middle class and poor. All proposed restrictive and confiscatory gun laws only impact lawful gun owners and sportsmen; the criminals blithely ignore them or steal more to pay higher prices.
Mr. President, we ask you to speak out now against this bill before it even comes up for a vote in the House of Representatives.
