Promote and support the peace talks with the FARC in Colombia and avoid its suspension.

The Colombian government has been negotiating with the FARC, a Marxist guerrilla that has been up in arms against the government institutions for more than 50 years. Although the history of the FARC and the subsequent spiral of violence that they created is muddled and complicated, part of the problem is that democracy in Colombia has been closed for new alternatives and new participants for decades. The current negotiations are opening the door for the FARC to participate in the democratic debate and promote their ideas in an open forum, protected by the government institutions. We want that the peace talks continue, despite threats of suspension by some political parties and want that the US government to openly support its continuation, peace, and support democracy in South America.
