The Electoral College, while once a useful political mechanism, is now a vestigial component of our electoral process for these reasons (among others):
1. It undermines the democracy that we as Americans so often promote and take pride in by not allowing the people to truly choose the President and Vice President.
2. The College belittles the American people's ability to effectively research candidates and decide our President.
3. Four Presidents have been elected despite having a smaller percentage of the popular vote than their opponent. In a democracy like ours, every President should win the popular vote.
4. The College discourages voter participation in "safe" states.
True electoral reform must start with the abolition of the Electoral College.
