Scleroderma is a chronic, autoimmune disease that has no cure. The disease hardens connective tissue in the body and due to it being an autoimmune disease, the body does not work to fight it.
The effects of the disease can be mild to severe, yet it will last the entire lifetime of the individual. 6 out of every 7 patients are women mostly between the ages of 35-50 though the disease can be contracted at the younger or older age. The disease is non-contagious though studies have shown that there can be a hereditary connection where the disease may travel from parent to child. Symptoms of Scleroderma include Raynaud's, calcinosis, an esophageal dysmotility.
We urge the Obama administration to call for further funding and enhanced research into finding a cure for this disease.
