The slogan "In God We Trust" has appeared on U.S. coins since 1864 and on paper money since 1957. That's 147 years on coins and 54 years on paper money.
In the spirit of fair play, as exemplified in both the Fairness Doctrine and the Equal Time Rule, it's time to let those who disagree with that controversial statement have access to the extremely scarce resource of U.S. currency and coins.
I urge the Obama administration to recognize that all sides of issues need to be heard in a democracy, particularly in a case where public funds are being used to promote views on scarce but highly visible publicly owned media, and to put this awareness into effect by promoting the introduction of a bill requiring the motto "In God We Trust" on coins and currency be changed to "God Does Not Exist".
