We the people ask the federal government to Call on Congress to act on an issue:

Promotion of 'Fair Chance Act' - prohibiting an employment agency from forcing an applicant to disclose criminal history

Created by S.J. on July 14, 2016

The Fair Chance Act, intertwined with the “Ban-the-Box” movement started in the early 2000’s, to help remove barriers to employment for people with criminal backgrounds. In the United States over 1/3 of the adult population (approximately 70 million people), have a criminal record. Employers are overlooking qualified employees simply because of mistakes made in the past. This is taking a toll on families across our nation when people who should be the bread winners supporting families are struggling to find employment, even though their debt to society has been paid. The Fair Chance Act removes the conviction history question on the job application and delays the background check inquiry until later in the hiring process. Society needs to commit ourselves to giving people a second chance.
