Most people in the upper divisions of government are out of touch with what it's really like to live and work in a minimum wage situation; they don't know what it feels like for two parents to have 3 jobs and 3 kids; they don't understand why people live in "bad" neighborhoods and can't get bank loans.
Maybe if they spend one day each year working at a fast food restaurant they'd understand a little bit more. If this ever happened, of course, they'd all go to some fancy upscale McD's in their home districts. It wouldn't be authentic. But at least it'd be something.
Oh, and they'd have to do dishes. Lots and lots of dishes.
