The well-known embargo against Cuba, codified into law by The Cuban Democracy Act and the Helms-Burton Act neither serves the people of the United States nor furthers the liberation of the people of Cuba.
The embargo has been proven to have little effect upon the economy of Cuba or the stability of its regime. Meanwhile it limits the freedom of US citizens from their right to open and free travel and commerce.
The embargo highlights the hypocrisy of US foreign policy in which we have supported far more brutal regimes -- both right- and left-wing.
Legislation should be introduced to repeal the Cuban embargo, embrace neighborly relations, permit US citizens to travel freely and engage in commerce with Cuba.
Eventually, US/democratic ideals imported into Cuba will topple its regime.
