Despite rhetoric neither party has proposed spending cuts. They are arguing over the rate of spending increase. Republicans want slightly slower spending increases than Democrats.
I contend the country would be much better financially if both sides simply kept spending constant year over year. This would allow revenue (taxes) a chance to catch up with spending.
