In recent years, the Supreme Court has repeatedly issued rulings that give power to individuals and corporate entities that can afford to spend millions of dollars to influence elections. The practical effect of these rulings is the virtual sale of American democracy to the highest bidder. The only remedy to this injustice is a constitutional amendment that would completely eliminate private funding for elections. If all elections for federal office are funded only by the Federal Elections Commission, fringe groups with few supporters but deep pockets will no longer have disproportionate representation in our government.
