propose that disabled people getting social security should have their student loans automatically discharged.

Created by C.B. on February 15, 2012

Currently you can have your student loan discharged if you are no longer able to work due to a disability. If you are getting social security disability, it is obvious you can no longer work. There are a lot of disabled people who's social security benefits are being garnished for defaulted student loans. Most of these people don't even know their benefits are being garnished or how to go about having their student loans discharged due to a disability. I think it makes sense to automatically discharge student loans for those people who are determined by the US government to be 100% disabled and recieve social security benefits.
