This bill is designed by a private citizen who wishes to provide a means that will create accountability on both sides of the aisle. A government of the people and by the people should enjoy the same benefits and hardships as the people they represent. By tying the compensation to the financial state of their constituents outside of the wealthy campaign donors those said representatives become more accountable for their legislative record. The name of this proposed legislation is Government Accountability and Pay (GAP) Act.
The spirit of this legislation is to make those elected to office accountable to their constituents in a manner consistent with the mantra “Of the people by the people for the people.”
