Guns cause numerous unnecessary deaths and injuries each year. The administration seems to want to reduce the availability of guns to address the issue.
One way to do so is to impose strict but limited civil liability in a set amount, such as $5,000.00, on the manufacturer(s), seller(s), and registered owner(s) of any gun that causes injury and $10,000 on any gun that causes a death, regardless of any degree of fault.
Such a law would discourage individuals from casually purchasing, owning, or discharging guns. It would also discourage the manufacture and distribution of guns.
Similar state statutes exist to hold the owners of motor vehicles liable when their vehicles cause property damage, personal injury, or death to encourage responsible stewardship for motor vehicles.
