In the United States we track the sale and ownership of vehicles very closely for ownership and crime tracking reasons. We should be doing the same thing with firearms since they are a deadly weapon. In the event of a crime we should be able to trace a weapon back to its owner as soon as possible. Or in the event of a suspect being arrested in a gun related crime we should be able to see if that person actually owns a firearm of that caliber.
There is no reason why someone needs to own a weapon anonymously the way we allow under current law. We should be able to track a gun to its owner immediately just as we can with a vehicle.
