The recent government shutdown and other cases of modern political gridlock are thanks in part to the practice of gerrymandering. Both political parties create districts that are largely filled with their own voters, rather than creating true districts that reflect regional population distribution within the states, see the example of Austin, Texas. We the undersigned desire to have a truly representative government and to do so, we ask the Obama administration to outlaw gerrymandering, requiring all districts to be drawn based on truly local population distribution.
