Currently, almost every other industrialized nation in the world utilizes the Metric system as their standard for weights and measures, save the United States. The metric system is by far a more efficient standard to use as it is based upon simple base 10 arithmetic as opposed to all of the various units used in the Imperial system used by the United States today as it's primary system.
Our children are currently taught the metric system in schools primarily for use in basic science courses such chemistry. The rest of the world uses the metric system fully in every day life. this puts our children at a disadvantage at a fundamental level.
Currently our food producers are having to supply imperial measurements for foodstuffs here at home and metrics for shipping overseas.
