Insurance in any form is a scheme to protect persons from unusual losses. To work properly, everyone needs to "buy" insurance to keep policy costs low. Mandatory auto insurance was legislated to protect victims. For-profit, wall-street-insurers routinely deny legitimate claims to make more money. Health insurance companies do the same. When hurricanes strike, insurers claim that flooding is excluded and refuse to pay for wind damages. The insurance industry is corrupt. We can collect taxes, lowering insurance costs to individual citizens, and cover losses to citizens without corporate insurance for-profit mentality. Without insurance company profits, we can pay more claims, more fairly, and eliminate a corrupt industry.
